Creativity and innovativeness are traits that show up early on in an individual. This is the insight driving the My Idea Programme, an initiative that targets the student community.

Designed as a two-phase competition, the My Idea Programme encourages the student community to pursue their ideas and find solutions to important social problems. It stresses ideas for solving problems in agriculture, dairy, water and energy.

Phase 1

Is a intra-college contest of ideas and technology innovations. The students winning at this level take part in the inter-college young innovator programme where they compete against winners from other colleges.

Phase 2 - The Young Innovator Program

It is an inter-college contest for Phase 1 winners held at IT Madras. Aside from the competition, capacity building workshops on innovation and commercialisation of technology are held. This equips students with the strategic and technical skills needed to complement raw passion.

Some of the criteria that are used for evaluations include:

• Technical and economic feasibility
• Innovativeness
• Social impact
• Potential for commercialisation
