Mastitis is a killer disease that affects cows and buffaloes leading to milk losses and ultimately their death. Conventional mastitis testing kits require specialized expertise, are expensive to administer, and cannot detect mastitis before the onset of symptoms.

Villgro supported pilot marketing of the product with Ponlait (a milk cooperative union in Puducherry); as part of this pilot marketing, the kits were supplied to artificial insemination technicians who in turn sold them to cattle farmers. L-RAMP helped file a patent application for the technology. Villgro also been negotiated with interested entrepreneurs in the field of animal health and dairy automation, to either sell the technology outright, or license it. In its search for entrepreneurs, it held discussions with organizations such as the National Dairy Development Board, Akash Ganga, and Natural Remedies (Bangalore).
